Friday the thirteenth has always been a lucky day for me.
However for many the number 13 is considered disorderly, deviant, and devilish. I've often heard people say they could never sit 13 at a table as this will result in the death of one of them. I'm sure this fearful myth comes from the "fact" that Jesus had his last meal with 12 others. As far as Friday IT IS the day of doom. Many people also consider it "fact" that Friday was the day that Jesus was crucified. Then there was Thomas Lawson who wrote the novel "Friday the Thirteenth" in which a broker picks that day to bring down Wall Street. Thomas Lawson is also famous for his namesake ship, The Thomas Lawson, the only seven-masted schooner ever built. Was it an odd coincidence that The Thomas Lawson was also wrecked on Friday 13th, 07? Then as if right out of fiction the stock market crash of 29 called "Black Friday" And let's not forget the space shuttle Apollo 13 that NASA launched on Friday the 13th at exactly 13:13 back in 70. They were scheduled to go to the moon, but never made it. The Apollo 13 astronauts had electrical problems, little to no heat or water, problems with oxygen and they were "lucky" to make it back to earth. Thus Friday is never a good day to start a journey or a new project. And especially if the Friday is a 13th. Yet many do. Many people journey off to shop on "Black Friday". We have all heard of the disasters that happens on every "Black Friday". Even if the day is not a 13th. Shootings, fights, people trampled. And all in the name of Jesus. To remember Jesus Birthday we kill and fight and trample. I find it somewhat ironic that any month's 13th day will fall on a Friday if the month starts on a Sunday. Sunday. The Lords Day. It must begin on a Sunday to have a Friday The 13th!
Chelsea, Pearl and Rusty loved the back yard. And the pool. Pearl and Rusty loved to chase each other round and round and round. Cheasea watched. A Mother job. All 3 of them were great swimmers. The evenings were somewhat chilly this time of the year in Albuquerque. At night I would cover the pool with a solar blanket. The pool had a heater but I seldom used it. The sun did it's job. I got home from work around 12:30 in the afternoon and as always went straight outside to play with the 3 pups and remove the solar blanket for a swim. There sat Chelsea and Pearl. The 3 of them were always together waiting for me. Not today. I knew without even looking that Rusty had drowned. I called Bobby at his Salon and told him Rusty was dead in the pool. Minutes later he was home and jumped in the pool and found Rusty. Drowned and on the bottom. Pearl must have accidentally knocked Rusty in and under the cover while they were playing. October 1995. October began on a Sunday. This was the 13th day. It was a Friday.
This one wasn't lucky.
